ROLE SUMMARY

At AstraZeneca we believe in the potential of our people and that you’ll develop beyond what you thought possible. We make the most of your skills and passion by actively supporting you to see what you can achieve no matter where you start with us.

AstraZeneca is a global, innovation-driven biopharmaceutical business that focuses on the discovery, development and commercialization of prescription medicines for some of the world's most serious diseases. AstraZeneca is one of only a handful of pure-play biopharmaceutical companies to span the entire value chain of a medicine from discovery, early- and late-stage development to manufacturing and distribution, and the global commercialisation of primary care and specialty care medicines that transform lives. Our primary focus is on key areas of healthcare: Oncology; Cardiovascular and Renal Metabolic disease (CVRM) and Respiratory + Immunology – and Rare Disease.

The Market Access Director – Gulf is responsible for developing and leading integrated market access strategies to optimize the access, pricing, funding, and uptake of AstraZeneca’s innovative portfolio across the Gulf region. The role acts as a strategic leader, driving cross-functional collaboration to realize business objectives while navigating the evolving healthcare policy landscape. The Director will shape the external environment, build relationships with key stakeholders—including health authorities, payers, policy makers, and provider networks—and deliver robust value demonstrations for AstraZeneca’s medicines.

What you’ll do

  • Develop and oversee the implementation of the Gulf Market Access strategy, ensuring alignment with global and regional business objectives.
  • Lead pricing strategies, reimbursement submissions, and negotiations with government authorities, payers, and insurance funds to guarantee optimal access and funding outcomes.
  • Anticipate and shape the evolving policy and access environment by closely monitoring local regulations, policies, and payer trends; provide timely insights and develop external influencing strategies accordingly.
  • Drive the development and submission of compelling value dossiers, health technology assessments (HTA), pharmacoeconomic analyses, and real-world evidence that support reimbursement and pricing negotiations.
  • Support launch excellence by ensuring early and sustained access for new products and indications, working closely with Medical, Regulatory, Government Affairs, and Commercial teams.
  • Build and nurture strategic relationships with key external stakeholders including Ministries of Health, health authorities, payer organizations, insurance companies, and healthcare providers.
  • Lead local market access team and coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure that value, access, and pricing considerations are integrated into product strategies from early development through commercialization.
  • Provide strategic input into clinical development programs based on Gulf payer and patient needs; guide evidence generation initiatives relevant for local access requirements.
  • Represent AstraZeneca Gulf in relevant industry forums, working groups, and policy dialogues to advance external policy positions aligned with patient access and company interests.
  • Ensure all market access activities adhere to AstraZeneca’s compliance, ethical, local legal, and regulatory requirements.

Essential for the role

  • Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy, Medicine, Health Economics, Public Health, Business Administration, or related field; advanced degree (MSc, MBA, PhD, PharmD) is a strong advantage.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in market access roles in the pharmaceutical or related healthcare sector, with at least 5 years in a leadership capacity within the Gulf or wider MEA region.
  • Proven track record in pricing, reimbursement, payer negotiations, and health economic value demonstration.
  • In-depth knowledge of healthcare and reimbursement systems, regulations, and key stakeholders across GCC markets.
  • Experience with HTA submissions, value proposition development, and the use of real-world evidence is highly desirable.
  • Exceptional leadership, strategic thinking, collaboration, and communication skills.
